Worker Classifications

Workers in Libya may be classified as regular Workers or independent contractors. Workers may also be engaged using fixed-term and indefinite contracts.

Fixed-Term Contracts

The maximum duration for fixed-term contract in Libya is two years, which may be renewed once for an additional two years. After, the contract will ultimately turn into an indefinite contract unless terminated.
 
 

Probationary Periods

Probationary periods are required in Libya for 30 working days. If the Worker is not terminated by the end of the 30-day probationary period, the Worker's contract automatically becomes indefinite. Workers may be terminated without notice or severance during the probationary period.

Libya observes seven public holidays per year. Public holidays are considered paid time off.

Workers in Libya are entitled to 30 days of vacation each year.
 
 

Sick Leave

Sick leave entitlement in Libya depends on the Worker's seniority and continuity of their illness.
 
 

Working Hours

In Libya, working hours are a maximum of 48 hours per week and 10 hours per day. Workers are entitled to a minimum one hour break during their workday. Workers should not work longer than six consecutive hours without a break.
 
 

Overtime

Overtime pay in Libya is triggered once the Worker exceeds 48 hours in one week or 10 hours in a single day. Workers may work a maximum of 3 overtime hours per day. For overtime hours, Workers must be compensated at a premium of 150% their normal wage.
 
 

Mandatory Bonuses

There are no mandatory bonuses in Libya.
 
 

Termination

Workers may be terminated after being given 30 days’ notice or payment in lieu. Notice of termination must be provided to the Worker in writing. If termination is due to proven Worker misconduct, notice may not be required. Workers must be granted two hours within their regular working hours throughout the notice period to search for a new job.

Resignation

If a Worker resigns, they must submit a written letter of resignation. No notice is required.
