Worker Classifications

Workers in Sudan may have fixed-term or indefinite contracts.

Fixed-Term Contracts

Fixed-term contracts are permissible in Sudan. A fixed-term contract is only permissible for two years with a single renewal.
 
 

Probationary Periods

Probationary periods are permitted and may last up to 90 days. If the Worker’s contract is indefinite and the probationary period ends without a termination taking place, the contract automatically becomes permanent.
 
 

Holidays

Sudan celebrates 9 public holidays each year. Work performed during public holidays must receive a premium of 200% the Worker’s usual wage.
 
 

Vacation

Workers with at least one year of continuous service but less than three years of continuous service are entitled to 21 working days per year of vacation. Workers with three years of continuous service, but less than fifteen years of continuous service are entitled to 25 working days per year. Vacation is paid at the Worker’s regular rate of pay. Unused vacation may be carried over from year to year.

Sick Leave

In Sudan, Workers are entitled to 9 months of paid sick leave. During the first 3 months of absence, the Worker receives 100% of their usual pay. For the next 3 months, Workers earn 50% of their usual wages. Lastly, during the final 3 months, the Worker receives 25% of their normal pay.

Working Hours

The official working hours in Sudan are 48 hours per week or 8 hours per day. Workers are entitled to a paid rest period of no less than 30 minutes.
 
 

Overtime

Overtime in Sudan may not exceed 4 hours in one day or 12 hours in one week. Workers receive an overtime premium of 150% their usual wage for overtime hours worked.
 
 

Mandatory Bonuses

There are no mandatory bonuses in Sudan.
 
 

Termination

Workers who receive monthly wages and have less than two years of service must receive one week of notice. Those who have less than five years receive two weeks. After five years, a Worker is entitled to one month of notice. If the Worker has worked not less than three years but not more than 10 years, they shall be entitled to severance equivalent to 150% of their usual monthly wage for each year of service.
